The Alabama Indian affairs commission recognizes the Piqua Shawnee as one of the nine indigenous tribes in the state of Alabama. Most of the indigenous people settled in the Oklahoma territory after the Indian war. Some were able to escape resettlement which could occur after. The members of the Piqua Shawnee tribe have prevented the loss of their culture and heritage as they are scattered all over the parts of the mild west, Canada, and other places. This tribe is officially recognized during the time of sensors. A council of the tribe usually governs the community. They have chiefs who can maintain law an order in the community.
